Caelum – Olde City Angels Book 1
Eva doesn’t claim to be a good guardian angel, but she tries. After she loses two charges, the Powers That Be begin to doubt her abilities. To redeem herself, Eva sets out to rescue Elsie, granddaughter of the former king of the Fae. A demon has kidnapped Elsie to complete an ancient ritual that will allow him to slip through the veil between Earth and Hell during the Sturgeon moon.
Thomas, an angel liaison, finally lands his first mission. But when he’s paired with the angel responsible for his uncle’s death, he has to put aside their differences to get the job done.
With unlikely friends in tow, Eva and Thomas are in a race against time. Save Elsie, save the world—oh, and save Eva’s job.
Interview with Mandie Stevens
Q: Where did the idea for the book come from?
A: St. Augustine is my hometown and I’ve always had a deep love for it. It is our nation’s oldest city and has so much history, it was the perfect setting for all things supernatural.
Q: Who is your favorite character and why?
A: In this story it is Thomas. Caelum started out as a short story called Redeemed in an anthology a few years back. Thomas had a small part but when I decided to rewrite the story his character grew quite large and he is now one of the main characters. I also have a soft spot for Phenex. He is an underdog of sorts, he isn’t perfect but he tries to do the right thing.
Q: What is your writing process? Do you listen to music or do you like silence?
A: I plot everything out, make character sheets, do a lot of daydreaming then get to work. Many times my plots take off with a mind of their own and if that happens I adjust the plot line.
Definitely music, I don’t like silence unless I’m out in the woods somewhere. I have music for different scenes of my books and it usually is alternative like Hozier, Death Cab for Cutie, Imagine Dragons, Twenty-One Pilots, and Mumford and Sons.
Q: Are you working on anything new right now?
A: I’m finishing up the second book in this series, Ethereal. It will be out this winter. Immediately after that I am working on rewrites of a book I finished last year before we found out my husband had cancer. Also have a middle school series that takes place in this same world with fae, dragons, mermaids, and more.
Q: What is your favorite book of all time?
A: A Land Remembered by Patrick D. Smith. I love history, especially Florida history and you will find it in my own books. Mr. Smith took real history and make a fiction book. There is a children’s edition as well and my children are currently reviewing it. I highly recommend it.
